Young Galaxy – “Pretty Boy”

young galaxy

Young Galaxy seems to be a band I always overlook, but immensely enjoy when I listen to their music.  Their new song “Pretty Boy” is one of those songs that has that soft electronic pulse that gets into my head and pulls me in. Trapped there I am merciless to the radiant haunts of Catherine McCandless’ vocals. I’m anxiously awaiting Ultramarine, their new LP out in April on Paper Bag Records.

New Young Galaxy – “Long Live The Fallen World”

Last January I discovered what everyone was praising in the self titled debut of Vancouver’s Young Galaxy.  That album was what dream pop was all about.  Now they’re back with the first track from their sophomore album, Invisible Republic entitled “Long Live The Fallen World” (via Arts and Crafts).  Take a listen:

Wow.  That was my first word after taking it in.  Their self titled was much more subdued than this track. “Long Live The Fallen World” has a fierceness to it…and it really shows off the incredible voice of Catherine McCandless.  Can’t wait to hear more.

Young Galaxy Dazzles Me

This past year I saw the name Young Galaxy float around the bloggin world quite a few times, but I never caught a listen until now. A duo from Vancouver, Young Galaxy released their self titled debut earlier in 2007 with some strong reviews. Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless produce solid dream pop. Unlike most music from this genre, it doesn’t get old. That’s because they are well thought out and beautifully crafted songs layered with harmonized vocals and echoed guitars. I was stunned to find that there really wasn’t a bad song on the album. The Arts & Crafts label proves again why it’s at the forefront of modern indie rock.
