New Land Of Talk – May You Never [mp3]

Land Of Talk Fun and Laughter EP

YES!  Elizabeth Powell and her band Land Of Talk are back!  Coming soon is a new 4 track EP Fun and Laughter as well as a fall tour.  We recently received the first track off the EP, “May You Never”.  The song raises an eyebrow with the piano lead in, but quickly slides into the emotional/powerful rock that Land Of Talk wins me over with so easily.  This track definitely has me resurrecting LOT’s previous Some Are Lakes into my rotation today.  Enjoy!

The Run Down – Wednesday October 22, 2008

Tonight in Baltimore the Ottobar has The Mishaps, All Night Drug Prowling Wolves, Sick Sick Birds, and Thee Lexington Arrows.  Down in DC the Black Cat has The Octopus Project and Jeans Team while the 9:30 Club has Minus The Bear, Annuals, and Sylvie.  Also in DC at the State Theatre is Broken Social Scene and Land Of Talk.  Should be a good one.  Enjoy!

Land Of Talk

Somehow and at some point I came upon Land Of Talk’s EP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss a ways back and cranked it louder than I should have.  The soulful fury of lead singer Elizabeth Powell struck one of those so-called chords and I had to respond with extra volume.  I’ll admit I was a bit wary of the full length being able to match that rush of emotion I felt on the EP.  Land Of Talk proved me wrong with Some Are Lakes.  Powell unleashes her sincere wrath upon the opening electric strum to the last fading note.  They do slow it down on moments and it doesn’t feel like a let down (“It’s Okay” is one of those moments and it’s a beautiful song).  Justin Vernon of Bon Iver aided Powell, Chris McCarron (bass) and Andrew Barr (drums) while recording the majority of Some Are Lakes in an old refurbished church outside of their hometown of Montreal.  The result is a tireless indie rock record that feels perfect going into the colder months.

New Land Of Talk Single

Montreal’s Land Of Talk have just released the first single off of their upcoming album entitled Some Are Lakes out on October 7th via Saddle Creek.  This title track immediately reminded me of why I was so psyched for this album.  If you like it, pre-order the album here or check them out on tour (the dates are after the jump).  Enjoy!
