Its been a while since I’ve done one of these remix round up posts, but there’s been enough solid reworks lately I thought it necessary to crank it up again. I knew what I was getting into when pressing play on the Blackbird Blackbird, Teen Daze, Memoryhouse, and Chad Valley jams. Those folks are all stars and they continue to spread the light with these. I had no previous encounters with Venezuela’s Algodón Egipcio, a Lefse alum. His remix of Dominant Legs‘ “Clawing Out At The Walls” (one of my favorite songs from 2010) is better than I could have ever imagined. Thoroughly rocking that track on a groggy Tuesday morning.

I’ve been doing this “Handful of Remixes” thingy for a few months now, and if you’ve been paying attention you’ve figured out how it works. I wait until a handful of deserving remixes fall into my hardrive from the mystical depths of the interwebs. Then with a little pixie dust and fairy tears, I present them to you. Normally it takes a few weeks until the stars align just right, but this week a barrage of amazing collaborations burst onto the scene and my ears have magically turned to gold. I mean how often does Beck do remixes? Let alone remix Lykke Li? Also Star Slinger must be an alien or something. Nothing on this world could constantly slay jam after jam – the latest dragon being Broken Social Scene. Then GAMES up and reconstructs Blonde Redhead into some sort of solar eclipse hydrogen dream ballad. As a topper Labyrinth Ear remixes Morning Parade – a band I know nothing about and have never heard of – but love it. And finally as that extra cherry on top the always fab Chad Valley gets a stellar reinvention via FilFla – another artist I know nothing about, but absolutely love the track. I know…blah blah blah…just listen dammit:

As I said at the beginning of the week, the river of remixes seems to be spilling over the banks these days. Most of them being incredibly good as well as unordinary (a plus in my book). The current favorite of this next bunch has to be Electric Sunset‘s remix of Kisses‘ “Kisses”. Basically – stellar/favorite artist remixes stellar/favorite artist’s song which happens to be one of my favorites of the year = BOOYAH! Check it:

There’s been a seemingly endless flow of good remixes attacking the blogosphere as of late. Nothing high profile or anything, but definitely some exceptional reworks of some equally exceptional original tracks. Its hard to choose favorites, but right now I’m completely in sync with unouomedude‘s reconstruction of Total Warr‘s “I Don’t Need Your Friendship”. His earlier remix of NazcarNation is perhaps one of my favorites of the year and doesn’t disappoint on this new one. Check it out (plus a few more):

The “day of recovery” is upon us and it looks like there’s not much time to do just that. What I will do is find some time in this early morning to spend some quality minutes with a cup of coffee (or as my little one calls it, “foffee”), some pancakes, and some sun bleached tunes echoing through my living room. If only every day could start this way…
