If you’ve ever listened to DC’s Benjy Ferree, then you know he packs a punch. Never have I felt his right hook more than when I listen to his new album Come Back To The Five And Dime, Bobby Dee Bobby Dee. The heart of the album is based on Ferree’s childhood obsession Bobby Dricoll aka Peter Pan. Driscoll’s life was tumultuous to say the least. After the success of the movie in the 50s, the class act Disney kicked him to the curb. Driscoll was getting older and could no longer land a quality job with out his youthful Peter Pan appearance to back him up. Ultimately drugs and alcohol were his demise. Ferree tackles this life as if it were his own and drenches his songs with grit and emotion that is not often heard. The style pegged for Ferree is Americana Rock but really with this emotional saturation – it’s the blues. A soulful blues at that. If you’re in the mood for some well crafted, powerfully performed neo blues rock, then Benjy Ferree might just stamp your ticket with a ride on Come Back To The Five And Dime, Bobby Dee Bobby Dee.
