Aderbat, aka Bucks County, PA’s own Matt Taylor, is about to release his debut LP, We Belong To The Sea in July. I was lucky enough to preview this album recently and walked away with Josh Rouse singing Bends-era Radiohead songs as a first impression. What does this all mean? It means that Taylor’s songs are thoughtfully written and emotionally performed. His raspy voice takes you down a country highway, while the overall song structure has you bobbing your head to something a bit more modern. The production isn’t over-glorified, yet it isn’t simple either. Takes for instance the strings on Recycled Language. They chime in like drum beats echoing every rhythm, giving it an angular Vanderslice feel to it. It’s these types of inclusions that broaden the album for the listener. Different instruments play their role to a tee heightening the emotional vision of We Belong To The Sea. Don’t just take my word for it, go see him and his Bucks County pals at their CD Release show on July 24th at Johnny Brenda’s.

As I’ve said many times before, nothing beats a great straight up rock band. The sun is shining and the windows are down. Now is not the time for the stereo gods to let you down. Well they didn’t. They promptly sent Athens, Georgia’s Mass Solo Revolt to the left, right, and rear speakers blazing their Modest Mouse shrouded in Pinback imitating Jawbox sound. Trust me, my steering wheel took a beating. But that’s just where it starts. Mass Solo Revolt, a project of song crafter, Martin Brummeler, have been gracing my audio system all week with their self released debut, Easy Mark. This rock brings joy to a music lover that grew up on Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., Jawbox, and Modest Mouse. Thank you, stereo gods.
