Tonight in DC the Black Cat has the show of the night with Fleet Foxes and The Duchess & The Duke. Up in Philly don’t miss a great one at the M Room with The Impossible Shapes, New Motels, On mono, and Phil & The Osophors. If that isn’t your cup of tea perhaps you’d enjoy the RZA as Bobby Digital playing the Troc with Stone Mecca.

Nothing makes your day and our day better than a contest. In anticipation of local favorite Thrushes re-releasing their wonderful LP, Sun Come Undone, on vinyl (via Sleepy Records), that fabulous Thrushes crew offered a free copy up for grabs to our loyal readers. Besides the fact that this is a fantastic album, this is also a limited release of just 500 copies and it comes with a signed and numbered print by screen printing legend Miss Amy Jo. So if your itching to get your hands on a copy then simply leave your email in the comments and we’ll choose a lucky winner in a week. Or if you don’t feel comfortable leaving your email out for the world to see, you can email us at [email protected] — but remember to put THRUSHES CONTEST in the subject. To further your interest here’s what the print looks like and a stand out track from the album.

This Is Ivy League is made up of long time friends Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez. They both grew up in Boca Raton, Florida and shared their love of music while playing in seperate local bands. Life pushed them apart, but then brought them back together in the magical place of Brooklyn (they lived just ten minutes apart from one another). Blackinton and Suarez bonded all over again and began writing a series of songs together that would later become the foundation for This Is Ivy League. This Is Ivy League is a luscious blend of sandy beach pop songs and Coney Island getaways…in other words beautiful soft pop for a lazy summer day. They’ve just released their debut self titled LP in April on Twentyseven Records.

Are you ready for the BBQ and fireworks today? Or are you just treating this like any other Friday? What am I doing today? A little from column A and a little from column B. You can never pass up on fireworks and BBQ(especially good BBQ), but this has also been a hectic first week back from vacation and I think I’ll try to kick back a little…and enjoy some music… image by Torontoist
