Gainesville’s Kodak To Graph (Mikey Maleki) just released this mountain-top jam he made for a recent Lyfstyl comp Ad/ven/ture (he literally recorded it on top of a mountain). This has KTG’s organic beats in full force – perfect for dancing close to the sky.
PA’s Night Panther just dropped a new fireside smoker of a song. This is one to get lost in the flames with.
Another beautifully written guitar laced gem has surfaced from HOLOPAW’s upcoming Misra release Academy Songs, Volume I (out January 15th). Getting psyched for this album!
There’s a lot of words I could use to describe Baltimore’s Secret Mountains (rock, psychedlic, dreamy) but intense seems to be the one I usually drift to. On the upcoming debut LP, Rainer, their music hits a downpour of emotional intensity that I happily stroll through. The beauty is that they don’t achieve this through the ordinary standards – loud guitars, build-ups, kicked out drums – they bring it on through finely tuned arrangements that balance every element. The result is an ocean of fluxating mood…and intensity. ”Coasting”, the first single, is a prime example of that…and a song that I’ve played a bit too many times today.
Rainer comes out on February 26th via Friends Records. You can pre-order it here.
Here’s some incredibly wispy, haze-filled, dream pop from a new Austin band minidresses. They have a 3-track 7″ out now on Manic Pop! (get it). Stream/download on their bandcamp.
A few weeks ago I posted on the Sydney duo Au.Ra and their sweet chilled pop tune “Sun”. They’ve laid it back even further, this time stripping out the vocals entirely with “Jane’s Lament”:
Mexico’s DannielRadall was kind enough to sneak in a two-track EP just before the end of 2012 entitled Evidente. Two neon laced tracks of electronic cinematics that are beautifully understated.
