I’m half asleep right now so it seems fitting that Cuushe’s dream-pop slides gracefully into my ears and shuffles me in between daydream states. Her new EP, girl you know that i am here but the dream, comes out on June 20th and features the two stellar tracks below as well as a few more including remixes from Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, Botany, Julia Holter, Kixnare, Motion Sickness Of Time Travel, Federico Durand, and Geskia!. Pick it up from Japan’s flau records here.
It’s been a few years since I had heard anything from Baltimore’s Mr. Moccasin…but low and behold they have a new album, XAHA, coming out soon. It’s produced by our pal Greg Hatem (Heart Of Hearts) prompting me to immediately press play on the first single “Black On Black”. XAHA is the Russian cyrillic spelling of the name Hanna, i.e., the singer of Mr. Moccasin. This album is built around her world/expression/vision, and boy does her power come through on “Black On Black”. Her voice is strong and the rhythms are mind-altering. I dig…very very much so.
19 year old New Jersey producer/Bard College student Snacs plays some golden platinum plated crystal funk grooves. Its impossible not to like. Its impossible to play quietly.
An EP is in the works…
And he’s also part of this little collaboration with fellow Bard College student/rapper Windex (EP upcoming as well):
Belgium’s Hazey Jane (Jeroen De Meyer) previously twisted my mind with his blistering Spring EP. But the seasons have changed with his Winter Walks EP. While it’s the burning summer here in Baltimore, the winter snows have built up around Hazey Jane, coating everything…washing it out…calming and freezing it. Pure meditative beats. Go get Winter Walks via Primitive Patterns.

It seems like a rare occurrence when a remix comes by that I really enjoy enough to devote a single post to. Javelin, a favorite of mine, have remixed Ed Schrader’s Music Beat’s “Traveling”, perhaps my favorite track from what is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums of the year Jazz Mind (purchase/stream it on bandcamp). Take a listen below.
