Haunter, “a dreamy boy band from WI that cries often”, plays soft experimental folk that varies in sound over their new S/T release (out now for PWYW on bandcamp). There’s 4 different members and each of them write the songs – so that accounts for the variety, but they generally stick to the same mood – quiet acoustic guitar driven tunes that drift into the melancholy often. My favorite on the release is “Laura Palmer” which mainly reminds me of Baltimore’s Soft Cat – so I love it.

schonwald, a duo from Italy, play dark hazed out cavernous tunes that burn the chest. They have a release coming out in the future via Chicago’s Hozac Records. For now feast on these:
Germany’s Soft Decay doesn’t break the mold in any way shape or form, but I’m always down for well done dark electronic synthpop. Soft Decay achieves just that with his instrumentals “Spark” and “Poly”. They melt into the neon and sleep with the city.
Greece’s Melt Mountain took a familiar vibe and affected into new life. ”Blossom Dream” is a beachside soother that warps and melts into something a bit drearier. It’s part of a two song release available for free via Sonic Playground.
Portland’s boyscout discovery just released a new video game bomb soaked electronic roller. It’s streaming over my mid-morning work headache and doing its best to cure it. Check it:
Russ Manning, the bassist of the mighty fine Twin Shadow, has a solo project in the form of Rush Midnight. His +1 EP comes out in October via Cascine and it features “The Night Was Young Enough”, a dark synthed funk fitting for this impending fall season.
