Teen Mom – “I Wanna Go Out”

DC’s Teen Mom have seriously captivating lo-fi rock tunes.  I could listen to this song ALL DAY LONG:

Mean Tom is their debut 12″ out at the end of the month via the wonderful Analog Edition.  Also this description/history of the band is better than anything I could ever write about them:

Chris Kelly birthed the fuzz-pop skeleton of Teen Mom at university in Dublin amidst the strong influences of loneliness and Seinfeld reruns. He never talks about his experiences in Ireland.

Tom MacWright and Sean Dalby met at college in Virginia and formed both a series of bands as well as a ‘hired gun’ rhythm section, which has been the secret sauce behind every successful Washington, DC area band since. They met Chris Kelly when he crashed their July 4th party, and eventually learned about his music project, but never anything about his time in Ireland.

Eventually the skeletons became songs and the group became a band. They have been owning the DC music scene as of March 2011. The recordings also grew, producing an EP and several singles-in-waiting.

Sean is currently on the market.

Heart Island – “My Interrupted Mind”

heart island

Whitney Gould, a part of the fab Seattle electronic outfit SPORTS, has been soloing it for a little bit now under the moniker Heart Island.  The majority of the work he’s done with it has been instrumental electronics and remixes, but he just emailed me a new track featuring his vocals as well….which are quite good.  ”My Interrupted Mind” is a drifting brooding synth piece – check it:

Nite Fields – “Vacation”

nite fields vacation

Brisbane’s Nite Fields have just announced a new 7″ Vacation out on November 17th on Lost Race Records. The title track is an industrial swooner.  Additionally their dark droning experimental pop is helping dim the lights on a computer-screen-lit basement-dwelling workday. I am so so thankful!

Stream/download the even deeper/darker B-side on the Nite Field’s SoundCloud page.
