Sorry for the lack of posts as of late…been working on things beneath the scenes. One of those things being the creation of the poster design and artwork for this upcoming SXSW showcase being put on by the crew at PORTALS as well as the Hype Machine‘s Hype Hotel. The show is on March 16th and features Toro Y Moi, FIDLAR, Blue Hawaii, HAERTS, Mac DeMarco, Chrome Sparks, and DJ sets from Monster Rally. The show is 21+ and kicks off a noon and runs til 6pm.
Mandatory RSVP: http://hypem.com/hotel/
I and many many PORTALSfolk will be there so let me know if you’ll attend!
Tomorrow night there’s a pretty rad show going down at Baltimore’s Windup Space. One of my faves, Secret Mountains, is bringing their force to North Ave. Rumor has it, they have an album due out early next year and sometime very soon we’ll be hearing some new sounds from them. Also on the bill is Bmore’s Other Colors and Holy Ghost Party (both of which have some tremendous releases out on Gen Pop) and Brooklyn’s SoftSpot. RSVP here. See you there?
Another monthly mix dropped on PORTALS last Friday and it’s one of my favorites. Baltimore’s Which Magic has her lovely “Electra Light” blazing on it as well as some sweet jams from Yom San, Headaches, Poppy Red, and The Townhouses.

Also - that swell artwork you see above was done by yours truly
Today on PORTALS I featured a new track from Baltimore’s Which Magic. It’s a good one!

Baltimore’s Weekends, usually known for their buckets of gobs and gobs of energy, has an album of acoustic lo-fi renditions, Acoustic Tape Volume 1, coming out tomorrow on cassette via Friends Records and on CD via Reoccurring Dreams Records. Normally hearing this would come as a shock, but previously they put out an acoustic version of “A Defining Love” that was spectacular, so I figured the rest would be gold too. I was right! There is also a release show going down at the MICA Cohen plaza with KISHI BASHI. It’s free and they’ll be playing with a string quartet (!!!). RSVP here.
Tonight there’s a sweet one going down at the Golden West Cafe featuring Baltimore’s Secret Mountains, Lands & Peoples, and Happy Family as well as Son Step from Philly. Doors are at 10pm and it’s a reasonable $6. RSVP here.
If there’s a midweek must see show in Baltimore, this has to be it. Jacober, Other Colors, Joe Blossom, and Chester Endersby Gwazda are all playing a super sweet show in the lot of the Current Gallery. This thing kicks off at 7:30 pm so don’t slack and get down there. Directions and RSVP can be found here.
In related news, Other Colors have just posted two new outstanding tracks (from their upcoming Free Thoughts LP) on their SoundCloud. Take a listen below:
