RJD2 Announces New Album – The Colossus – For January 2010 Release

rjd2

YES!  For those who don’t know I’m a big RJD2 fan.  I still recall the first time I glanced at the Deadringer CD on the rack….contemplating whether a disc with a bloodied up dude might actually sound decent.  So I took a chance and he’s been making my ears happy for years.  His last album The Third Hand was a bit of a departure for him – ditching the turn tables and samplers for a full band sound with him singing.  I have to admit that it didn’t hit it off right away, but appreciated the experimentation.  In January RJD2 will release a new album, The Colossus, on his new record label RJ’s Electrical Connections and it appears that he’s going back to his bread and butter for the most part as well as enlisting a few folks to collaborate.  Check the track list after the jump and check some favorites right here:

school of seven bells

School Of Seven Bells and their truly stunning album Alpinisms is getting the deluxe treatment when Vagrant Records is reissuing it on October 13th with nine extra tracks (which are some remixes, live cuts, and demos).  To help push this little endeavor the band was nice enough to make an alternate version of “Iamundernodisguise” available for free.  This take is a much more subdued than the original.  Take a listen:

New Deastro – Dead Kids EP

deastro

Who out there loves Detroit’s Deastro?  I do.  Not only was Moondagger, his album released earlier this year via Ghostly, the shiz, but he keeps on pumping out new music…and giving it away for the world to enjoy.  Just last week via his blog Deastro put out the free digital EP Dead Kids.  It’s bubbling with the electronic soundscapes that I’ve come to hold dear.  Largely instrumental and mostly great!  Get it here.

Remix: Kids At The Bar takes on Harlem Shakes’ Strictly Game

kids at the bar

My love for the Harlem Shakes goes way back to their demo days.  “Strictly Game” is perhaps one of my favorite tracks off their debut LP Technicolor Health (though the whole thing is ace).  On their new remix Oklahoma City’s Kids At The Bar slice and dice this track to the max until you’d swear it was born on the dance floor.  I’m diggin’ it…perhaps because I’m in one of those dancy moods today…or perhaps because even just a slice of the Harlem Shakes is nice.  Check it:

And in more Harlem Shakes related news, their guitarist Todd Goldstein has his solo project Arms (who I’ve also been a fan of since the demo days) and the super-fantastic debut album Kids Aflame is finally seeing a release in the US on October 27th via Gigantic Music.  The album will feature a few new bonus tracks.  If you slept on Mr. Goldstein previously, now’s your chance to redeem yourself and GET THIS ALBUM.  Take a listen to the title track:

New Music from Islands and Panther

islands

Over the past few weeks new music seems to be popping up all over from bands that previously captured my heart/interest.  Montreal’s Islands, whose previous albums Arm’s Way and Return To The Sea rocked my world, unleashed the first title track single from their upcoming album Vapours (out September 22nd).  It has a poppier, almost Van Morrison-like feel to it.  Check it:

mp3: Islands – Vapours

mp3: Islands – I Feel Evil Creeping In from Arm’s Way

mp3: Islands – Rough Gem from Return To The Sea

Another one word band, Panther, has a new album coming out a week after the Islands release.  This one, titled Entropy,  is due out on September 29th via Kill Rock Stars.  Panther gives us a sneak peek of their new sound with “Love Is Sold”.  This track packs a lot more melody than their previous songs…and I’m lovin’ it.  While I enjoyed their rhythm heavy tunes off of 14 Kt God, this infusion of better singing…well…is better.

New Del and Tame One – Special [mp3]

del and tame one

Sometimes we all just let the beat friggin drop and head back to some raw straight up free flowing hip hop.  Who better to do that his week than two legendary free form rappers in Tame One and Del The Funky Homosapien.  They’re teaming up for a new album Parallel Uni-Verses out via Gold Dust on October 13th. The first single “Special” isn’t fancy, it’s just dope. Check it:

New King Charles – Love Lust [mp3]

king charles

West London’s King Charles and his first single “Time Of Eternity” is still kicking my ass steadily.  Now he’s back with a new single “Love Lust” out on October 26th via Mi7.  While “Love Lust” doesn’t blow your head off like “Time Of Eternity”, it still packs a steam rolling rhythm, sick synth and guitar lines, and a bit of an island feel to the vocals.  Check it:

Also the B-side of this new single “Mr. Flick” kicks ass mightily as well so why not pick it up?
